Rada města schválila návrh smlouvy mezi městem Ostrava a Dopravním podnikem Ostrava, a. s. o úhradě jízdného za osoby starší 70 let. V tarifu pro přepravu cestujících uplatňovaném DPO v ostravské městské hromadné dopravě je v roce 2011, stejně jako v minulých letech, zohledněno uplatňování nároku těchto osob na bezplatné jízdné v tarifních zónách 1, 2, 3, 4 na území města Ostravy.
Senioři nad 70 let jsou povinni svůj nárok na bezplatnou přepravu prokázat přepravní kontrole platným osobním dokladem. SMO má ve svém rozpočtu na rok 2011 vyčleněny finanční prostředky na úhradu jízdného za osoby starší 70 let ve výši 1 730 tis. Kč. Částka je vypočtena jako násobek ceny roční dlouhodobé jízdenky pro seniory starší 70 let a počtu osob, které budou MHD využívat, stanoveného odborným odhadem.
„Cestování v MHD sedmdesátiletých a starších občanů zdarma má nejen v Ostravě, ale i v řadě dalších měst u nás dlouholetou tradici,“ konstatuje náměstek primátora pro dopravu Aleš Boháč. „Vyjadřuje úctu nás, mladších a ekonomicky aktivních k lidem, kteří pro naši společnost něco vykonali. Senioři navíc patří k těm sociálním skupinám, na jejichž životní úroveň současná ekonomická krize dopadá velice citelně. Finance ušetřené za jízdné v MHD mohou příznivě ovlivnit jejich domácí rozpočet,“ dodal A. Boháč.
